New Release: “Hallelujah Bruv” by Tapir!

Tapir! returns with a brand new single, titled “Hallelujah Bruv,” in their first official follow up to their debut album, ‘The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain,’ released in January of 2024. Strikingly intimate, the song spanning just over two minutes features Ike Gray at the helm, with his familiarly tender and weathered vocals, over colourful, yet gentle, acoustic guitar chord progressions. The song includes distant, serene vocals during instrumental passages, further adding to the delicacy of the track, and filling these moments with an ethereal spirit.

While the song is concise in length and lyrics, its emotional impact belies its brevity—Gray poignantly explores vulnerability in a rather crushing way. As it did on their 2024 LP, his poetry shines for its remarkable evocative depth. Despite the verses being rather sorrowful, the inspiration behind the chorus and title of the song is rather lighthearted, with Ike Gray recalling an encounter with “the bloke locking up the parking lot” after grabbing an over-priced bottle of Coke at a pub. The groundskeeper let him out just before locking up, concluding their conversation with, “hallelujah, Bruv.”
